Getting Microsoft certified, for less money!

There’s two things you may not be aware of when it comes to getting a Microsoft certification:
 
  • Thing 1: they release new exams in "beta" form. If you can manage to get a reservation to take a beta exam, first – it’s free, and secondly, if you pass – you will get full credit for that exam, when it’s released. So this is a cheap way to knock out certifications, for free no less! How do you find out about these? There’s a blog for that: http://blogs.technet.com/betaexams/ – sign up for the RSS feed to get new notifications.
  • Thing 2: you know how there is that "Second Shot" program, where you can re-take an exam for free, if you fail it? Well, there is a similar program available to students with a valid a student ID. There is the Student Second Shot program which does the same thing, except exams are $60 each compared to the $125 that you’d normally pay! Since I am in school and have a student ID, I plan to take my MCPD upgrade exams and will look to take advantage of this offer.
